This is what I wrote in response to another individual who dismissed the reality of tyranny, disarming individuals, and wholesale slaughter of millions in the past, and yet again called for “something to be done” to protect the children:
—–
If the blood of hundreds of millions of slaughtered, disarmed people isn’t evidence enough for you to acknowledge that our point of view isn’t just some philosophy, or collective paranoia, or however many more dismissive terms you wish to use, I’m not sure there are any further words needed. But allow me to try once more.
How much more blood do you need? How many more babies should be offered up to the gods of tyranny in the name of “gun control”? How many more skulls should be buried because individuals like yourself are so blind to history that you believe the tyrants who wish to disarm the population are merely charitable individuals irrationally lashing out at the equalizing tools of self defense? Or is it their arrogance that reaches the height of absurdity to think that they have a built a society that is different this time, that it couldn’t happen here because they are better? The blood of hundreds of millions boldly stands out as a defying, damning evidence that proves otherwise.
I seriously urge you to reconsider the immediate dismissal of folks that have similar points of view as me. We acknowledge and understand that violence is the symptom of a much larger, multifaceted problem. We’re actively discussing and working to come up with solutions to these underlying problems. If you took the time to read the things I’ve linked to and posted, and the active discussions elsewhere, people are truly, honestly coming up with and discussing potential solutions to the real problems of our society.
But understandably, there are many, many individuals out there preparing for war. They’re preparing for war because our politicians don’t care about solving the underlying problems, and keep talking about banning, restricting, and confiscating weapons. They’re preparing for war because our politicians show no concern at all and appear to merely wish to use the blood shed for their political pursuits. And that scares people.
It scares people because if their politicians don’t care about people dying, maybe next time it will be them and their families on the alter of policial pursuits. So people who learned from history are arming themselves and preparing for war. Gun stores are nearly wiped clean of inventory. Prices for what is still left in the store and on the open market privately have doubled and continue to rise.
These people aren’t clutching their guns white knuckled in fear, they’re logically preparing for what appears to be a worst case scenario where they are forced to attempt to defend their own lives and the lives of their families from the most technically advanced military power in the world. Sound familiar? The American Revolution should come to mind.
And so it’s understandable, that people who are preparing for war are not in the mood to discuss the underlying problems that lead individuals to commit terrible, violent acts. They’re a little more concerned with preparing to ensure that their own lives can continue.
But let’s pause for a moment and let’s talk for a moment about violence, right?
Let’s talk about how banning various drugs creates a violent black market. Let’s talk about how banning various drugs prevents individuals from settling disputes in the court, rather than in the street with guns, knives, and other weaponry. Let’s talk about how banning drugs hasn’t prevented people from getting drugs. Let’s talk about how half the prison population is there due to drug related crimes. Let’s talk about how banning drugs doesn’t solve the underlying problems.
You actually want to talk about solutions – real solutions, useful solutions? You want gun related violence to drop in half? Stop the “war on drugs”. You want Obama to “do something”? Pardoning all prior drug related offenders, and introduce new laws that regulate the production, distribution, and sale of all currently illegal substances in a sane manner, such that people aren’t killing each other over a business deal gone bad, might be a good start.
Let’s talk about how we can be a less violent people. Let’s talk about how we can raise our children to resolve disputes without violence. Let’s talk about how we can raise our children to admit wrongdoing and ask for forgiveness when they’ve offended or hurt someone. Let’s talk about how we can raise our children to not abuse and damage other human beings. Let’s talk about how we can raise our children to be the ones that rise up to defend the lives of their peers rather than cower under their desks.
Let’s talk about how we can raise our children to have useful skills so they can provide for themselves and their families. Let’s talk about how we can raise our children so they don’t take on tens of thousands of dollars of debt in exchange for 4 year of drinking copious amounts alcohol, a piece of paper that says they should have learned something, no real world job skills, and a case of soul crushing, spiraling depression.
Let’s talk about how we can raise our children to be able to better endure the hardships of life without running to the doctor for some magical pill to try to make everything better when even the doctors don’t know the long term side effects. Let’s talk about how we can raise children that won’t put up with government enforced monopolies that raise the cost of medical care by 8% on an anual basis.
Let’s talk about how we can raise children that will actually try to resolve these and many, many other problems rather than just rush to restrict, ban, confiscate the weapons their families used to protect their lives.
Because the politicians of this generation are not interested in resolving the actual problems, and we’re the ones that have elected them. we are getting what we asked for: tyranny. So it’s up to us to raise a better generation because there are too many in this and past generations that don’t care about solving the problems, and prefer politicians don’t care about solving problems either.
Maybe the next generation will learn from our mistakes. Maybe that’s the best we can hope for at this point. Maybe those who are preparing for war are on the right track.
